So I’m up late at night and scrape the top of my mind. It’s usually not top-notch work, but there is the occasional gem. Though I (and maybe you) may end up using something here to build a bigger, better piece of writing, this space exists primarily for practice practice practice. Hemingway wrote that “the first draft of anything is shit,” if you think this is true, enjoy the manure. Otherwise, I welcome you with open arms – enjoy my DRAFTBOOK.

Note – This site (the widgets, design, etc.) is still being tweaked to my taste so if you notice changes, have no fear. Likely, you’ll not notice since I’ll mostly be changing minor things like spacing. The URL and feed won’t change so subscribe away.

Whose DRAFTBOOK?

When I first came to America in 1990, I only knew a few words, among them, “Hi, my name is Oleg, would you like to be my friend?” All these years later, these words are still appropriate. What’s important here is that I write. My main focus is on poetry, but I also write short stories, essays, and the occasional drama. I’ve had poetry published in a few literary journals including Westwind and Ohmanut and will soon (October, 2009) be releasing a hand-made chapbook of, if everything fits correctly, 25 poems. Feel free to follow me on Twitter (@lifeinoleg) or contact me by e-mail (lifeinoleg at gmail.com). And if you feel in any way about a draft you see on this page, by all means comment.

For more Oleg stuff, visit my main site at http://lifeinoleg.com. The design is a work-in-progress, but the content might enlighten, inspire, or amuse you (among other things).
